Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A body was found hanging inside the toilet of an unreserved coach of the Mumbai Mail train at the Santaragachi railway yard on Tuesday evening. According to railway officials, the train had arrived at Howrah station in the afternoon, and after passengers disembarked, it was sent to the yard for routine cleaning and maintenance. During the process, cleaning staff noticed the toilet door locked from inside. When there was no response, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) was informed, who broke open the door and found the body hanging.
No identification documents, tickets, or personal belongings were found near the body, making it difficult for authorities to establish the deceased’s identity. The Government Railway Police (GRP) has registered a case of unnatural death and sent the body for post-mortem examination. Officials stated that forensic experts have been involved to assist in the investigation. The RPF and GRP are reviewing station and train records to trace the deceased’s details.
Authorities are also verifying whether any missing person reports match the description of the deceased. The train’s route and recent passenger records are being examined to determine where the individual may have boarded. Officials have urged anyone with information to come forward. The investigation is ongoing.
